Although the School is conveniently located for London and surrounding
counties (just 30 minutes by train from Euston, and close to
Junction 20 of the M25), many families have moved from further
afield into the Kings Langley area, to ensure that they can
take part in the community life of the School. Quite a
few of our pupils are the children and grandchildren of alumni.
There is an Alumni Association, which exists to keep former
pupils in touch with the School and with each other in a long-term
network of friendship and support.
Parents of pupils automatically become members of the PTFA,
which is run by a committee made up of parents, staff and friends
of the School. The PTFA provides a forum for parents’
and staff interests and concerns, and also is responsible for
allocating the money raised by the School’s fund-raising
events.
There are many social, musical and other cultural events, such
as lectures, workshops, plays, films and concerts, etc. Gardeners
interested in biodynamic cultivation can apply for an allotment
in the School grounds.
This strong parental involvement creates a healthy community
and encourages fundraising initiatives such as the Advent Fair,
the Midsummer Market and Bonfire Night display.
Involvement in the school community is never prescribed. It
is nevertheless almost impossible not to have one’s enthusiasm
fired and to be drawn in at some point during your children’s
time at the School.

“We
attended a talk by Brien Masters nineteen years ago, when
our son was about 6 months old, and it was one of those
‘spur of the moment’ decisions that he should
attend a Steiner School. The financial implications were
very daunting to a young family, the more so when his
sister arrived soon after we moved to Kings Langley, but
we have never regretted our decision.
As parents, too, we have gained support and lasting friendships
through the school community. The opportunity to take
part in parents’ activities, raising funds and helping
to develop the school, has given us a sense of ‘ownership’
that we value greatly. As for the finances, it has proved
to us that ‘where there is a will, there is a way.’
