Recycling At The
Rudolf Steiner School
Welcome to the school recycling pages. This new
initiative is the first step toward becoming a "zero waste"
school. We will also be switching to reusable dinnerware and biodegradable
disposables to help us reach our goal.
About
Zero Waste -pdf
The school recycling scheme is managed externally
by F&R Cawley Ltd., and not the Dacorum council. This saves
the school approximately £1,000 annually. Below is an introduction
to how the scheme works. Your involvement is welcome and appreciated
in helping the school become more environmentally friendly.
Instructions for Recycling
CLASSROOMS:
PAPER
The plastic recycling container in your classroom can now be filled
with the following:
• White and coloured paper
• Fax and computer paper
• Post-it notes
• Non-windowed envelops
• Carbon paper
Collection will continue as before with Mr. Alkema’s class
10 students who will empty class bins into clear (recyclable) bin
liners and put them into the eurocart-wheelie bin provided at the
rear of the kitchen.
Other cardboard containers are located outside the library, staff
room, and in the copy room in the admin block.
Class 10 will collect this on a rota.
NEWSPAPER, MAGAZINES:
Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, telephone directories,
yellow pages, and brochures:
To be put in the containers outside the staff room and library.
PLASTIC BOTTLES
Any plastic bottles up to 5 litters with the symbols PET1
or HDPE2:
Rinse out and remove lids.
There will be labelled containers outside the staff room, library,
classes 1 and 2 and in the main theatre corridor.
TONER CARTRIGES AND PRINTER INK
Toner Cartridges are collected in a box outside Ann’s
office in the admin block.
(We cannot accept ‘Epson’ brand cartridges.)
KITCHEN
Inside the kitchen are two cardboard containers for the
disposal of plastic and tins.
All items should be washed before placed in the labelled container.
Once full, the liner should be removed and placed in the appropriate
euro bin (wheelie bin) found in the rear of the kitchen.
Other general waste can be placed in a black bin liner and disposed
of in a usual way.
Later in a term, we are hoping, with the help of our gardening teacher
Richard Price, to have “bokashi” - a green composting
system.
F&R Cawley Ltd supply the school with the
following euro carts (wheelie bins):
Glass; all glass, all colours.
Cardboard x 2 – All cardboard must be flattened.
General waste x 2 – General waste that cannot
be recycled can be put into black bin liners in a usual way.
Recyclable materials: This is the largest drop
front euro cart (wheelie bin) to store the following recyclable
materials.
Paper – Paper collected in clear recyclable
bin liners are placed in this bin.
Tins – Tins collected in clear recyclable
bin liners are placed in this bin.
